Bull mastiff

Bull mastiffs are large sized domestic dogs. They are thought to have originated in England, in or around 1860. They are built very solid and have a short muzzle. They often tend to be 24-27 inches tall and weigh 100-130 pounds. They on average live to be 8-10 years old. They do not often require much grooming because their hair is already so short, it won't get tangled like a long haired dog would. They are typically a highly active dog that enjoys playing with people and other animals. Even though they are an active dog, they are typically are calm when they need to be calm. They are also a very healthy dog for the most part. Occasionally they will have something wrong with them but for the most part they tend to be healthy. Most of the time they are very reliable, devoted, reserved, protective, alert, and loving dogs.

Rottweiler

Rottweilers are a medium to large dog that used to be known in Germany as Rottweiler Metzgerherd, which meant rottweil butchers' dogs because they were used to herd livestock and pull carts with butchered meat to the market. Rottweilers are now used as search and rescue dogs, and they are also seen as guide dogs for the blind, guard dogs, and police dogs. They have an average lifespan of 8-10 years. A female Rottweiler weighs on average 77-110 pounds, and a male on average weighs  110-130 pounds. Females are usually around the same height as males. A female is usually 22-25 inches, and a males are usually 24-27 so the males are on average taller than a female, but not enough to make it noticeable. Most of the time Rottweilers are black with tan on their stomach, around their face, above their eyes and on their legs and paws, but they can also be a light brown with tan in nearly the same spots. Rottweilers are very devoted, eager to work, and obedient. They are always very alert and aware of their surroundings. Many people are afraid of rottweilers, but there is no reason to be afraid of them unless they are mistreated. Dangerous behavior usually occurs because of irresponsible ownership, abuse, neglect, or lack of socialization. They are very protective of their territory and do not like new people unless they are introduced and can get a feel for them before being forced into it. They are a generally healthy dog, but they do have a higher chance of getting a disease called Osteochondritis dissecans which affects their shoulder joints because of their rapid growth rate.

Shih tzu

Shih Tzus are also known as the Chrysanthemun dog. They are a "toy dog breed"  that has very long silky hair. The average shih tzu  weighs 8.8- 16 lbs. They most common colors are "black, dark brown, gold, liver & white, light brown, black & white, liver or white". There are definitely pros and cons to owning a shih tzu. Some pros are that they are very playful, outgoing, alert, gentle, loyal, and they're very adaptable to new places. They're good with kids and for the most part they're good with other dogs as well. Shih tzus tend to jump onto and off of beds, chairs, couches and other things that are way too tall for their size and it sometimes results in injury because they are front heavy so they end up landing on their face. Some cons about this dog are the grooming requirements. Even though most dogs can go several weeks without bathing, shih tzus must be bathed almost once a week. If you would like to keep their long silky hair neat, that requires daily brushing and sometimes more often than that. If you don't want to mess with the long hair and want to keep it short, plan on having appointments to the groomer every 6-8 weeks. Their nails should be trimmed monthly and their ears should be cleaned once a week. As they age their face needs daily attention. They get dirty after eating and their eyes tear up more than most dog breeds. If not taken care of every day, it can cause the dog to have terrible odor and lots of crust around their eyes. If you don't mind all the grooming txt comes with this dog, they are a great, fun breed to have.

Maltese

The Maltese is a small dog with silky hair. When kept long and groomed like it would be for a show dog, the hair hangs flat over its body almost to the ground. Most owners however choose to keep it short and well cut because the long hair can be hard to deal with. They are a very lively and playful dog and they're good at learning tricks. They are very gentle, loving and trustworthy to their owners.  Feeding a Maltese table scraps can give them small dog syndrome. It is when a dog thinks they are superior to their owners and they start having human like behaviors. If they feel like they are the leaders they tend to be more snappy with children and adults. They are very small dogs and they're often less than a foot tall. A male is on average 8-10 inches and a female is 8-9 inches and they only weight 6.5-9 pounds. Malteses are expected to live 15-18 years.

Great Danes

Great Danes are often mistaken for having a Denmark background because of the name, however they are actually from Germany. At one point in time they were actually a very common hunting dog. They are believed to have been bred between an Irish wolfhound and an old English mastiff. They were often used to take down wild boars and needed to be physically and mentally strong. Today they are bred to be gentle and are not used as hunting dogs. They no longer have as much aggressiveness so they are often used as show dogs instead of hunters. Scooby Doo was a Great Dane because they are said to be able to get rid of ghosts and evil spirits. Most people believe that Great Danes are the tallest dog, but actually the Irish Wolfhound tends to grow a hair taller than a great dane. Females typically grow to be 28-32 inches tall and males typically grow to be 30-34 inches tall. When Great Danes are born, they usually weigh one to two pounds, but by six months they typically weigh up to 100 pounds. They continue to grow until they are two to three years old.
